Tallinn - one of Europe's best preserved medieval city centers

Tallinn, located on the coast of the Baltic Sea, is the political, cultural and economic centre of Estonia. With around 450,000 inhabitants, the city is home to a third of the country's population and is at the same time one of the most dynamic hubs in the Baltic region. Tallinn's historic heart is Tallinn's Old Town, which is one of Europe's best-preserved medieval city centres and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Here, cobbled alleys wind between Gothic churches, defensive towers and colourful Hanseatic houses. The impressive city wall, with its towers and gates, frames a city where time seems to have stood still, while modern elements blend in discreetly. Tallinn also offers a rich cultural and entertainment scene. There are museums, art galleries, theatres and concert halls, and Tallinn hosts several international festivals every year, such as Tallinn Music Week and PÖFF – Tallinn International Film Festival.
