Salla - Finland

Salla - above the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, near the Russian border in the middle of one of Europe's largest wilderness areas.
Salla is a municipality and town located in eastern Lapland, close to the border with Russia, in northern Finland. It belongs to the province of Lapland and is one of the most sparsely populated regions in the country. Salla is both a village and a mountain area and has its own ski center called Salla Ski Resort. It is located about 150 km northeast of Rovaniemi and Santa Claus Village. Salla is sometimes called "where the roads end", reflecting its remote and untouched location. Salla is not only a beautiful holiday destination, but also an authentic Lappish village where the locals live in harmony with nature. Good to know: There are more than 10,000 reindeer in Salla, but only less than one person (0.6) per square kilometer.
