Bastia-Poretta – Corsica's second largest airport
Bastia-Poretta is Corsica's second largest airport, officially called Aéroport de Bastia-Poretta. Bastia-Poretta is located in the commune of Lucciana, south of the city of Bastia in northeastern Corsica. Bastia-Poretta is used for domestic flights to and from mainland France as well as for international flights, especially during the tourist season. Bastia-Poretta is an important transport hub for the north of the island.
The city of Bastia itself serves as the administrative and economic center for the northern part of the island. Bastia has grown up around its port, which has long been important for trade and shipping between Corsica and the French mainland. Bastia has an older city center with narrow streets and historic buildings, as well as newer residential areas that spread along the coast and inland. Today, Bastia is characterized by port activities, services, education and a daily life that reflects both Corsican and French influences.
