Nuuk Airport, South

Nuuk Airport has undergone extensive renovation
Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and is located between the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. Greenland is mostly covered by ice sheet, while the population mainly lives along the coasts. The economy is based on fishing, the public sector and tourism. The largest city and administrative capital is Nuuk. Greenland has its own government and is responsible for most domestic issues, while Denmark handles foreign and security policy.
Nuuk Airport is a civilian airport located northeast of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. Nuuk Airport serves as both a domestic and international hub for air travel to and from the island. Nuuk Airport has undergone extensive renovations, including a runway extension, a project that was completed in 2024. The runway is now approximately 2,200 meters long, allowing larger aircraft to land directly in Nuuk instead of via another airport further north. The new terminal and runway are adapted for regular flights to places such as Copenhagen and Reykjavík, as well as to other Greenlandic destinations. Nuuk Airport is used as a base for Air Greenland. The terminal has basic passenger functions including security and passport control, and there are buses and taxis to get to and from the city. Nuuk Airport has also become part of direct connections with seasonal routes from, among others, United Airlines and SAS.
