Rialto Bridge – Venice's most famous bridge
Venice (Italian: Venezia) is one of Italy's most famous and unique cities. It is located in northeastern Italy, on the Adriatic Sea, and is built on over 100 small islands in a lagoon. Instead of regular streets, Venice has canals. There are no cars or roads in Venice.
Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto in Italian) - the oldest and most famous bridge in Venice. It crosses the Grand Canal, the largest canal in the city, and connects the two important districts of San Marco and San Polo. The bridge is not only a convenient way to get across the canal - it is also one of the city's most popular attractions and a symbol of Venice. What makes the Rialto Bridge extra special is that it has small shops and stalls in the middle of the bridge. Here, jewelry, souvenirs, Murano glass, masks and much more are sold. When you walk across the bridge, you can both shop and enjoy the view of the Grand Canal, with boats, gondolas and historic buildings. Before the stone bridge was built, there were previous wooden bridges here, several of which were destroyed by fires or collapsed. In the 16th century, it was decided to build a sturdy stone bridge, and despite many doubts about its construction, the bridge still stands today - over 400 years later.
