Den Helder, the beach and the harbor

Den Helder – the northernmost city on the mainland of the Netherlands
Den Helder is a coastal city located in the northwestern corner of the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The city is located on the narrow isthmus that forms the northernmost point of the country's mainland, right where the North Sea meets the Wadden Sea. Den Helder has a population of around 55,000 and is best known as an important naval base and a gateway to the popular holiday island of Texel, which lies north of Den Helder. Den Helder has a strong connection to the navy, but the offshore industry, especially in oil and gas extraction in the North Sea, also plays an important role in the city's economy. Tourism is also important, especially in the summer when visitors are attracted by the city's beaches, museums and proximity to nature.
