Marka in Oslo is a large natural area surrounding Oslo. It is popular for outdoor activities all year round and consists mainly of forests, lakes and mountainous terrain. Marka is divided into several parts: Nordmarka, Østmarka, Sørmarka, Lillomarka, Bærumsmarka, and several others. Together, Marka covers over 1,700 square kilometers, larger than the entire municipality of Oslo. Oslo is the capital of Norway and is located in the southeastern part of the country, at the innermost part of the Oslofjord. The city borders Sweden to the east and is surrounded by forests, hills and water. Oslo is also the center of Norway's government, royal family, cultural institutions and business. Oslo is located approximately 530 km west of Stockholm, 300 km south of Trondheim and 250 km north of Gothenburg.
