Tjeldsund - a scenic municipality in Troms county in Northern Norway
Tjeldsund is a scenic municipality in Troms county in Northern Norway, where the mainland meets the archipelago in a landscape characterized by fjords, mountains and open sea. The municipality is divided by the narrow strait Tjeldsundet, which separates Hinnøya – Norway’s largest island – from the mainland. Tjeldsund serves as a geographical and logistical hub in the region, where military installations, small towns and nature experiences live side by side.
Fjelldal - located on the east side of Tjeldsundet, is a small village known for its proximity to both nature and air traffic. Here are, among other things, the defense bases, as well as the nearby Tjeldsund Bridge - the bridge that connects Hinnøya with the mainland and connects important traffic routes in the region. Fjelldal also has an active small-scale farming community and is nestled in a beautiful coastal landscape, with views of the fjord and mountains.
Evenskjer - administrative center in Tjeldsund municipality, is located slightly north of Fjelldal and functions as a local service town with schools, shops and municipal services. The town is idyllically located by the Skånlandsfjord, an arm of the Tjeldsundet strait, and has a quiet, village-like life while being close to both Harstad and the airport at Evenes.
Sætertinden - at 1,095 meters, Sætertinden is one of the most dominant mountains in the region. The peak is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineering enthusiasts, with sweeping views of Ofotfjorden, Hinnøya, Vesterålen and the hinterland. The mountain is both easily accessible and awe-inspiring, and serves as a natural landmark for the entire area.
