Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, Las Canteras beach

Playa de Las Canteras - stretches for just over three kilometers along the western coast of Las Palmas
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, located in the north of Gran Canaria, is one of the largest and most dynamic cities in the Canary Islands. It serves as both the capital of the island and as a cultural, historical and commercial hub of the Spanish archipelago. Las Palmas itself offers more than just beach life. The older parts of the city, such as Vegueta, carry a rich history with cobblestone streets, cathedrals and colonial architecture. The city was founded here in the 15th century, and the place carries memories of explorers such as Christopher Columbus, who stopped here on their way to America.
Playa de Las Canteras - one of Las Palmas' biggest attractions Las Canteras stretches for just over three kilometres along the west coast of Las Palmas and is protected by a natural reef, La Barra, which acts as a breakwater. This means that the water is often calm and crystal clear. Las Canteras has fine, golden sand and is lined with a lively promenade with cafes, restaurants and small shops. Behind Las Canteras lies the La Isleta district and the modern Santa Catalina district.
