Pozo Izquierdo - one of the world's most famous windsurfing areas
Pozo Izquierdo - a small coastal village in the southeast of Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. Unlike the more touristy areas of the island, Pozo Izquierdo is known for its more relaxed atmosphere and its strong connection to the wind and sea - one of the world's most famous windsurfing areas. The strong and reliable winds blowing in from the Atlantic have made the village an international meeting place for water sports enthusiasts, especially during the summer months. It often hosts the Windsurfing World Cup (PWA World Tour) and has produced several Spanish world champions. The rocky beach, combined with the open sea and trade winds, create ideal conditions for both beginners and professionals. Pozo Izquierdo also has an international windsurfing centre, restaurants, small shops and accommodation mainly aimed at sports travellers.
