Salinas - a charming coastal village in Asturias with salt tradition and natural beauty

Salinas is a picturesque coastal town located in the Asturias region of northern Spain, known for its wide sandy beaches and its long history linked to salt production. The town is located on the Bay of Biscay, near the town of Castrillón, and is a popular destination for both locals and tourists looking for a combination of sea, nature and culture. Salinas takes its name from the traditional salt pans (salinas) that were long used to extract sea salt, an important part of the village’s economy for centuries. Although salt production is no longer so dominant, traces of this cultural history still remain, and the salt pans are a reminder of the village’s close relationship with the sea. Salinas beach is one of the most famous in Asturias – a long and wide stretch of sandy beach with good surfing opportunities and a popular hangout for both beginners and experienced surfers. In addition to the beach and nature, Salinas is a place where you can experience genuine Asturian culture. There are small restaurants and bars serving local specialties, especially fresh fish and seafood, as well as the famous sidra (Asturian cider). The area around Salinas also offers great opportunities for hiking and cycling in the green landscape with views of the sea.
