The valley station of the gondola in Åre is located on VM-Platån, a mountain plateau formerly known as Olympiaplatån. This location is central to several of Åre's most famous lifts and offers a fantastic view of the ski area. Here is the VM8 - a telemix lift (combined chairlift and gondola lift) that extends up to the mountain station at an altitude of 843 meters. Also located here is the Gondolen (H23) - a gondola lift that goes up to the top of Åreskutan at an altitude of 1,274 meters. VM-Platån is also home to the restaurant La Gondola, which is located next to the valley station of the gondola. The restaurant offers an international menu with Italian influences and has a bar, café and terrace overlooking the ski area.
Åre is a historic mountain village with a wide range of skiing, shopping, restaurants, bars, hotels and cabins. The ski slopes and views in Åre are recognizable from many World Cup competitions and international travel magazines have repeatedly named Åre one of the world's best ski resorts. Skiing in Åre is divided into three different areas. The most famous is Åre village with Åreskutan in the middle, right next door is the child-friendly Åre Björnen, and a short drive away is Duved/Tegefjäll.
