ICEHOTEL - a world-class hotel and an art exhibition of snow and ice
ICEHOTEL – a world-class hotel and art exhibition made of snow and ice. Since the small art gallery, which was the predecessor and inspiration for Icehotel, was built in 1989, it has been reborn in a new version every winter, in the village of Jukkasjärvi 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, and about 20 km east of Kiruna. It was the start of the journey that introduced the world to the Torne River, and the Torne River to the world. The Torne River, art and creating life-enriching moments are the driving force behind everything they do. Every year, artists, architects and ice builders carve a unique hotel out of the crystal-clear ice of the Torne River. Every spring, the hotel melts and is reunited with its original source, the Torne River.
