One of the world's largest sundials is located in the center of Pajala. With a diameter of 38.33 m., the sundial has a rustic tribal appearance and there is also a park around the sundial. The central pole of the sundial points like the "earth pole" towards the North Star, which according to Finno-Ugric mythology holds up the firmament, which refers to the Finnish roots of the area.
