Sorsele Municipality is a municipality in Västerbotten County in the province of Lapland in Sweden and the capital is Sorsele. Sorsele Municipality is located in the northwestern part of Västerbotten County and borders Rana Municipality in Norway to the west and the Swedish municipalities of Arjeplog Municipality to the north, Arvidsjaur Municipality to the northeast, Malå Municipality and Lycksele Municipality to the east and Storuman Municipality to the south. The Vindelälven River flows through Sorsele. The Vindelälven is one of Sweden's untouched rivers that has great natural value both from a landscape point of view and from a scientific point of view. The Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve is located around the upper reaches of the river. The area of the reserve includes the Tärnasjö and Artfjäll areas, Juktådalen and the mountain forests of Kirjesålandet, Matsorliden and Giertsbäckdalen. The municipality is crossed by the E45. The county roads 363, which follows the Vindelälven up towards Ammarnäs, and 370 also pass through the municipality. Sorsele is also crossed by the Inlandsbanan railway. Traditionally, the timber industry has been an important part of the municipality's economy, but in the early 2020s the municipality was the largest employer.
