Varbergs torg is located in the center of Varberg and is the heart of the city. The square is surrounded by Varbergs church to the north, Varbergs city hotel to the west, Sparbanken to the south and the old town hall to the east. It is bordered by Kungsgatan, Drottninggatan and Bäckgatan, and crossed by Torggatan, which is a pedestrian street. Varbergs torg is known for its lively market trading, which is held every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year, with different days that may occur on special occasions. Varberg was officially founded in the 15th century but dates back much earlier. The city's history is marked by Danish-Swedish conflicts, which is visible in Varbergs Fortress - one of the city's most famous buildings, which began to be built by the Danes in the 13th century.
