Koh Samui - the second largest island in Thailand and accessible by both domestic flights and ferry connections
Koh Samui is an island in the southeastern part of Thailand, located in the Gulf of Thailand and belonging to the province of Surat Thani. It is the second largest island in Thailand and is reached by both domestic flights and ferry connections from the mainland and nearby islands. Koh Samui has a mixture of coastal areas, inland areas with coconut palms, small villages and more developed tourist zones. The economy is strongly linked to tourism, but there is also agriculture, especially coconut production. Along the east coast is Lamai, a beach and a smaller town that is one of the island's more established tourist areas. Lamai Beach is a relatively long sandy beach with both swimming-friendly parts and areas with elements of rocks and larger rock formations. The buildings along the beach consist of hotels, restaurants and small shops. The town has developed gradually and accommodates both simpler accommodation and more extensive holiday resorts. The area around Lamai is more relaxed than some other parts of Koh Samui, but still has a range of activities, especially in the form of eateries, beach service and nightlife. Nearby are also cultural and natural attractions such as Hin Ta and Hin Yai, described natural rock formations .
