Darmstadt is located in the German state of Hesse, with around 160,000 inhabitants. Darmstadt is located south of Frankfurt am Main and is known for its role in research, technology and the arts. Darmstadt is officially recognized as a “Wissenschaftsstadt”, city of science, due to its strong connection to research and technology. It is home to the highly regarded Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD), where engineers and researchers are trained and develop the technology of the future. But Darmstadt is not only a city of technology, it is also a place with a rich cultural and artistic heritage. Mathildenhöhe is a historic artists' district in Darmstadt, located on a small hill east of the city center. It is known as a center of the German Art Nouveau style (Art Nouveau) and is considered one of the most important places in Europe for this art and architecture movement. Since 2021, Mathildenhöhe has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mathildenhöhe is not only a place for art, it is an architectural park, where you can stroll through a whole of buildings, gardens, sculptures and views. It is located in a quiet and green part of Darmstadt.
