Husum is a small port town in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein, located on the North Sea coast in the Nordfriesland region. With around 23,000 inhabitants, the town is known for its maritime heritage and its colorful houses. Husum is characterized by its harbor tradition. The Marktplatz in Husum is the historical and social center of the town. The square is located near the inner harbor and is surrounded by colorful facades, cafes, shops and important cultural buildings. Buildings and attractions at the square include the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), built in 1601, in the Dutch Renaissance style. The town hall is one of the city's most famous historical buildings and is still used for official ceremonies. St. Maria Church - a Baroque church built between 1803 and 1833, and which replaced an older church that was destroyed by storms. The church tower is a clear landmark in the cityscape and is visible in the camera image. The Asmussen-Woldsen-Denkmal, also known as the Tine-Brunnen, is one of Husum's most iconic landmarks on the Marktplatz. A bronze statue of a young fisherwoman, called "Tine", looking out to sea and holding a rudder in her hand, is a symbol of the town's maritime heritage. The Marktplatz also hosts weekly markets several days a week, where local traders sell fresh fish, vegetables, cheese and handicrafts. In the summer, the square is used for events, concerts, festivals and during Advent, the Marktplatz is transformed into a Christmas market with market stalls, light decorations and small stalls.
