Munich - famous for Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival
Munich is the capital of the German state of Bavaria and one of the most famous and well-visited cities in Germany. With around 1.5 million inhabitants, Munich is the country's third largest city, after Berlin and Hamburg. The city is beautifully situated on the Isar River, close to the Alps, and is known for its mix of history, culture, technology and quality of life. Munich is known worldwide for Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, which has been held every autumn since 1810. For two weeks, millions of visitors gather to enjoy beer, Bavarian food, music and traditional costumes such as Lederhosen and Dirndl. But even outside the festival, Bavarian tradition is present in the form of beer gardens, folk music and local food culture.
