Chicago is the largest city in the state of Illinois and the third-largest city in the United States, after New York and Los Angeles. The city is located on Lake Michigan in northeastern Illinois and has a population of approximately 2.7 million (2024). Chicago is an economic and cultural center, known for its architecture, music scene (especially jazz and blues), diversity, and rich history. Chicago plays an important role in finance, industry, transportation, and education, and is home to several major corporations and universities, including the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. Chicago is also known for its landmarks such as; Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), Millennium Park, Navy Pier, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Chicago has three major sports teams: the Chicago Bulls (basketball), the Chicago Cubs/White Sox (baseball), and the Chicago Bears (American football).
Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) - one of two major airports in Chicago. It is located about eight miles southwest of downtown Chicago and is the city's second-largest airport, after O'Hare International Airport. Midway opened in 1927 and was Chicago's main airport for a long time before O'Hare took over that role. The airport is now best known as a hub for domestic flights and is a major base for Southwest Airlines, which handles the majority of traffic.
