With a population of approximately 815,000 (2024), San Francisco is one of the most densely populated and diverse cities in the country. San Francisco is a major part of the Bay Area, which is home to Silicon Valley, the world's leading technology cluster. San Francisco offers a rich cultural scene with numerous theaters, museums, music festivals, and a diverse cuisine that reflects its diverse population.
Treasure Island - an artificial island located in San Francisco Bay, between San Francisco and Oakland. It is connected to Yerba Buena Island, which in turn is connected by the Bay Bridge, providing easy access to both San Francisco and the East Bay Area. The island is approximately 2 square kilometers in area and has a unique origin, strong historical significance, and an ongoing role in the future development of the city. The island was built between 1936 and 1937 as a civil engineering project intended to be the site of the Golden Gate International Exposition, a World's Fair held from 1939 to 1940. After the expo, the island was taken over by the United States Navy and became Naval Station Treasure Island, a major military base during World War II. Military operations officially ended in 1997, and since then the island has been the subject of extensive plans for transformation into a modern residential and commercial area.
