Kristiansund is a coastal city located in western Norway, in the county of Møre og Romsdal. The city is located on four main islands – Kirkelandet, Innlandet, Nordlandet and Gomalandet – as well as a number of smaller islands, and is known for its scenic archipelago. Kristiansund is one of Norway's most densely populated cities and has a unique cityscape with colorful houses that have earned the city the nickname "the colorful city". Kristiansund is also known for its opera and cultural events, such as the annual Opera and Photo Festival.
