Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a medium-sized city on the southeast coast of Spain, located in the province of Alicante, within the region of Valencia. It is located along the popular Costa Blanca coastline and has developed from a traditional salt producer to one of Spain's most visited tourist destinations. With over 80,000 inhabitants and many more during the summer months. Torrevieja has several long sandy beaches, such as Playa del Cura, Playa de Los Locos and Playa de La Mata, where both locals and tourists sunbathe, swim and walk along the long promenades. The city offers a wide range of restaurants, cafes, bars and shopping. Torrevieja's modern history took off in the 19th century thanks to the extensive production of sea salt, something that still characterizes the place. The large salt lakes – Laguna Salada de Torrevieja and Laguna de la Mata – are not only important for the salt industry but also unique natural areas where flamingos, waterfowl and a rich ecosystem thrive.
