Venice - Italy

Venice (Italian: Venezia) is one of Italy's most famous and unique cities. It is located in northeastern Italy, on the Adriatic Sea, and is built on over 100 small islands in a lagoon. Instead of regular streets, Venice has canals. There are no cars or roads in Venice. Instead, people travel by water taxi, vaporetto (water bus) or the famous gondola, which is a narrow, black rowboat that takes tourists through the city's narrow canals. The largest canal is called the Grand Canal and winds like an S through the entire city. Venice is rich in art, architecture and history.

Some of the city's most famous places are:

St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) – the large square with the beautiful St. Mark's Basilica and St. Mark's Bell Tower.

Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) – the old government palace.

Rialto Bridge – the most famous bridge over the Grand Canal.

Murano and Burano – two nearby islands known for glass and lace art.

Venice is also famous for its Carnival, Carnevale di Venezia, when people dress up in historical costumes and masks. It is one of the most famous and colorful carnivals in the world. The city also has an important film festival and is a place where many art exhibitions are held, such as the Biennale.
