Greece

Greece - a country in southeastern Europe, located on the southern Balkan Peninsula and surrounded by three seas: the Ionian Sea to the west, the Aegean Sea to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The country has one of the world's longest coastlines (over 13,000 km) and more than 6,000 islands, of which around 200 are inhabited. The capital Athens is both modern and historic, where ancient temples such as the Parthenon watch over a bustling city life. In the countryside you will find picturesque villages with whitewashed houses and blue shutters, often climbing up mountain slopes or placed like pearls by the sea. The climate is typically Mediterranean with dry, hot summers and mild winters, making Greece a popular travel destination all year round. Tourists are drawn to the country's many islands - such as Santorini with its dramatic cliffs and sunsets, Mykonos with its nightlife, and Crete with its rich history and varied nature. The food is another big part of the experience. A meal might consist of freshly grilled souvlaki, fresh Greek salad, olive oil and freshly baked bread – often accompanied by local wine or ouzo.
