United Kingdom
The United Kingdom, formally known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is a sovereign state located on the British Isles off the coast of northwestern Europe. The country consists of four parts: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The first three make up the island of Great Britain itself, while Northern Ireland is located on the northeastern part of the island of Ireland. Great Britain is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Irish Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel. The country has a varied landscape – from the high Scottish Highlands to the rolling hills of England and the dramatic coastlines of Wales. The capital, London, is one of the world's most influential metropolises, both politically, culturally and economically. Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. The monarch (currently King Charles III) is the head of state, while political power is mainly exercised by the Prime Minister and Parliament. The country has a strong economy, with important sectors such as finance, technology, research, industry and services.
