Åre is located in Jämtland County in central Sweden, close to the border with Norway. The resort is one of Sweden's most well-known winter sports destinations and is located about 100 km west of Östersund and about 650 km north of Stockholm. Åre is located at the foot of Åreskutan, a mountain that reaches 1,420 meters above sea level, and is easily accessible by train, car and plane (via Åre Östersund Airport). Åre is a historic mountain village with a wide range of skiing, shopping, restaurants, bars, hotels and cabins. The ski slopes and views in Åre are recognized from many World Cup competitions and international travel magazines have repeatedly named Åre one of the world's best ski resorts. The skiing in Åre is divided into three different areas. The most famous is Åre village with Åreskutan in the middle, right next door is the child-friendly Åre Björnen, and a short drive away is Duved/Tegefjäll.
